Mrs. Kaylene is a doctoral candidate for Ed. D. Community Care and Counseling with a focus on trauma and attachment. She has a master’s degree in crisis, trauma, and disaster counseling from Liberty University. She is also certified with Prepare & Enrich premarital and marriage assessments focusing on couples who desire to be involved with foster care or adoption. As a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors she is board certified as a professional counselor and attachment intervention specialist II. Mrs. Kaylene is also a certified psychological first aid responder in the state of Oregon where she holds a license as a licensed professional counselor (provisional-supervised).
Mrs. Kaylene is a native of Lancaster, Pennsylvania where she had a therapeutic home ministering to foster and adopted children and their families for over 25 years. She also co-pastored with her husband in Georgia as pastor over the children’s ministry at their local church. Her experiences encompass work with prison ministries, domestic violence, the AIDS community, homeless shelters, Teen Challenge, and faith-based community centers. She is the eldest biological child in a family that fostered over 80 children and adopted several. At age 22 she started her own children’s home for AIDS babies in the 1980’s and by 2001 focused on young children with extreme trauma and attachment issues, fostering close to 50 children herself, and adopting a sibling group. Mrs. Kaylene's extensive life experience as a bio child with fostered and adopted siblings, as well as being foster parent, adoptive parent, and now grandmother with grandchildren in the foster care system, allows her to bring extensive and varied perspectives into the family therapy session.
Mrs. Kaylene is trauma-informed, attachment-focused, and utilizes best-practice interventions in her session. Her approach is integrative with psychology and faith value systems. Her passion is to train and support foster and adoptive parents to be the therapeutic agent for change in their child while working through their own trauma concerns. She is passionate about training the local faith community to be a safe and healing place.
Mrs. Kaylene is the founder of the Carousel Project LLC, an organization that thinks outside the box of traditional treatment modalities. The Carousel Project is family-focused, truth-driven, holistically aware, relationally enriched, and follows high moral and ethical standards. Its objectives are to collaborate within the established systems of care for the enhancement of existing programs; to model family health through building positive boundaries; to nurture trust, attachment & attunement within the family structure; to encourage and equip parents through supportive services for family preservation; and to promote choices that encourage strong emotional, mental, spiritual, and moral character through lifestyle practices and disciplines.
